i was thinkin cdt, but i heard that focals have a smoother sound while cdt's are more harsh....

Don't get alpine components, the only good alpines are the overpriced ones.

Yeah the Alpine X are the good ones they use Vifa / Scanspeak speakers from Denmark.

IMO the 177a's are not overpriced. You can get them for 200 off ebay, and they are some of the best sounding speakers i've heard, though I know there are better. They have a very nice crossover, and for 200 bucks I think its a very good deal.

I agree.

A very nice speaker set and $200 is right around what most entry/mid levels cost these days.
