Alpine 9887 crossover question...

I have a question about the crossover on the alpine 9887. When in (3-way) mode, L/R, High-L and High-R it only shows adjustments from 20hz-200hz..why is this? isn't this supposed to be 1khz-20khz? and it also doesn't show Mid L and Mid H settings. only shows Low R, Low L, Mid R, Mid L, High R and High L.

you're right. i thought i switched it. got it set to:

Low LP 100Hz slope 12db

Mid High LP 80Hz slope 12db

Mid High HP 3khz slope 12db

High 2khz slope 12db

sounds pretty clean now. any recomendations? should i change the slopes?

You have a lot of overlap on the highs and lows for my taste. I LP on my subs at 80 mids run from 100hz to 2.5K, tweeters run 3.2K up all at 24db slope. I don't know what you have for mids and tweeters and where they should be crossed over at, or how you like your sound. Just play with it and run what you like.

i played with the settings today a bit. this is what sounds pretty clean...
LP 80 @ 24

ML 80 @ 12

MH 3.2 @ 6

H 3.2 @ 24
Umm, perhaps you should have your mid LP at 3.2 and you HP at 80 and not the other way around...

I would try to underlap the frequencies and see if it gets better, I bet it will //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

80hz is too high for your sub, if you need to play it up there you need to address the install of your mids.

If the deck has three (3) outputs and one set is for the subwoofer how do you run 3-way with two sets of RCA outputs? 1-Sub Out, 1-Mid Out, 1 High Out? I guess the Sub is the Lo and you can only run a two way component set, not a three way correct?

It appears you can control the upper and lower crossover points for the midranges which is nice because you can specify the range they operate in correct.

Hmmm, I may have to experiment with my 7998 I think it can do the same thing as the 9887.

i run a component set w/passive x and sub.

correct.

I just read up on this today. Don't run both passive and active, right? what about the amp?

I will be running the mids off the front channel and highs off the rear channel. sub off sub channel. that's how the x over on the 9887 is set when in 3-way mode. sorry about all the questions. this is my first time fiddling with an active x over. this is also my frist time running a SQ setup. thanks you all for the help.

did some adjusting. i set the gains on the 300/4 to 14.1v(rear channels) and 17.3v(fornt channels). sounds pretty ****ing nice now. x over settings are..

LP 63Hz -24db

Mid LP 80Hz -12db

Mid HP 2.5k -12db

High 3.2 -12db

time to play a bit with the tunning again.
