alpine 9857.... no sound!

anyone that has this deck or a similar one have the sound just quit working?? its only about 3 weeks old and has worked fine then all of the sudden yesterday no more sound... everything operates like it should, it even beeps and stuff... when i go in the menu to turn the internal amp on/off i can hear a fait noise in the speakers but thats all... no amps hooked up to it right now... just two front speakers... ive unplugged it, reset it several times... any ideas or should i get ready to send it back?? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crying.gif.ec0ebefe590df0251476573bc49e46d8.gif

You should check your speakers. You need a multimeter with an Ohm setting. Check the resistance between the positive and negative leads of each speaker; they should read between 3-4 ohms. If they test okay, check the resistance between between each speaker lead and the chassis ground wire; there should be no reading at all. If you have a speaker with a shorted voice coil, or a speaker wire shorted to ground, it will shut off the head unit's internal amp. Also make sure that your two unused speaker outputs are taped off so they can't short against each other or against metal in the dash.

ok i unhooked all the speaker leads, none are grounding out... i hooked up another speaker to one channel, and if i turn the volume up allll the way, and put the speaker up to my ear, i can very faintly hear the music playing... if i push the mute button, nothing changes... if i turn the internal amp off, i hear nothing... turn it back on, and its very very faint.... hmmmm like the internal amp took a dump or something?
