Alpine 9855 or 9857 for use with ipod

I'm considering a 9855 or 9857 alpine head unit to use with an 80gb ipod. i know the 9855 needs an adapter. I would like to know what the interface is like in controlling the ipod with both units, and which head unit u would recommend and why plzz.

Better iPod controller = 9857

Best SQ controls = 9855

The 9855 will cost about $100 for the iPod control module. The 9857 control cable is $30.

9855 has internal crossovers, time alignment, 7 band Parametric EQ, and 4-volt output. The 9857 has 2-volt outputs, bass/treble controls, BBE. They basically got rid of all the good sound controls in favor of a better iPod controller.

Most everyone I know that has an iPod and an older Alpine (pre 2006 model) uses the Ai-Net aux in adapter, and just mounts their iPod somewhere they can see/control it.
