When it came out, was it a higher end unit? is there any other useful info anyone can give me about the unit?(like quirks, glitches or otherwise)
I'd have to say I like it's predecessor, the 9827. It's got a little better style, in my opinion, and it's got 4 volt pre outs. In 2005 all but the 9855 and the 9965 had 2 volt pre outs. It doesn't change color though like the 9847.9847 is one of my favorite budget HUs. Basic, no frills, decent sound. Even had a few different colors of illumination to match your dash.

That's exactly what I said. Re-read it.DVA-9965 has 4-volt front, rear, and subwoofer preamp outputs, I been eye'ing this deck for awhile.
