Alpine 7897 or Pioneer 940mp Headunit ?

I have an Alpine 7897 now. I want a little more control over the

EQ. I would like a few more bands than what's on the Alpine.

I know the Pioneer has a 13 band EQ and a little more

sound shaping. My only concern is the sound. The one time I

heard both I thought the Alpine sounded a little better,

but that was in a showroom, so I can't totally judge the sound

based on that. Anyone have or have had both ?

Which sounds the best and are the extra features on the Pioneer

useful ? Is the Pioneer easy to navigate ?

I use to run strictly Pioneer hu but ever since I bought my Alpine I don't thing I will be going back.

Done so much research on this it ain't even funny, and I get alot of crap from people when I don't Jock Alpine Stuff. But I was a pessimist about Pioneer until I hear,saw,used. Currently I am looking for a 940 MP used and affordable. (I blew it last week when some lady was selling a 2 month old Pioneer 940MP on E-bay in supposed "XLNT" condition With XM tuner and ALL Hardware..I went to sleep early and missed final winning Bid at only $350..I'm still depressed).

I HEAR THE PIONEER IS ALMOST TOO SOPHISTICATED..But I think thats a good thing??

I am no EXPERT..But I honestly would rather buy a Pioneer 750MP or 940MP than be given an equal ALPINE UNIT..Am I an idiot..Maybe..But Pioneer proves to me,and doesn't look like a confusing unit of useless dials and clutter....I am wierd.But I have no taste for Alpine although I know they are bomb..I am getting thier AMPS for example..But for me.Alpine and JL are flavor of the month type stuff.."MY BOY HAS IT SO I WANT IT TO"...No Offense ANYONE..But here in L.A. it's Unfortunate that I will not buy an ALPINE head unit mainly because of the type of guys who do.

I had a Alpine 7998 which is like the 7897, save for the better screen and the lack of internal power. I made the switch from that head unit to a Pioneer 940mp. I think both units are great, but I do favor the Pioneer over the Alpine. The Alpine did have a faster MP3 seek time than the Pioneer, but not by much.
