Alpine 7294E tuner fade

My Alpine 7294E R/T (1990 vintage) tuner operates ok for about 15 minutes after switch-on. Thereafter operates intermittently and finally fades off completely. Tape and CD function ok. Local Alpine service centre techie checked tried unsucessfully to simulate problem in the workshop. I would hate to part with the unit which has served me well since 1991. Anyone out there can throw some light on my problem ? I would appreciate any help I can get!
