Wire shit right and tune right. While turning gains down you also have to check bass boost on the HU and turn that to flat or 0 as well.

So I should bring bass boost to 0 and and turn the gain to about half?

^Like they said don't use the bass boost. I've never used a multimeter or oscope to set gains. Just do it by ear, turn the headunit up to ~3/4 full volume then adjust the amp gain until you hear distortion or it is not getting any louder, then back off the gain a bit. There's a sweet spot bro I'm sure you can find it. What you wanna do is get max output and clarity without going over the necessary gain setting.

You're probably clipping the subs. Gain turned up 3/4 of the way really is too high for most system. That's the only reason for subs heating up like that.

Gain is basically input sensitivity, decks have different pre out voltages. So a 2.5v pre out=gain higher than a 4v pre out.

If you put the gain too fair above the amps trying to do what it can't, create more power.

Bass boost is a thing that you don't use.
