ALDI Food Stores

Me : "So let me get this right, you wont give me a bag that costs .01 cents for your company, but you have no problem about me taking your brand new chrome shopping carts for 25 cents."

The AlDI's around here get better meat than Jewel/Meijer/Walmart and the likes for better prices. The only place you can find better meats is at the butcher shops. Bagging your own groceries isn't that bad, that's why the food is so cheap. And although these people that work there seem pretty stupid, they're probably getting paid more than anyone else that works at any other grocery chain. ALDI hooks it up when it comes to a fat week's worth of groceries, and wages.

ALDI's here pays $11 an hour to start.

Yeah im at Fort Campbell now. Weird town.... definately caters to the transient army folks. There are at least 19 Tatoo studios that i've noticed! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

and ive noticed that most of the chicks here are either preggos or married, or have 2.5 kids. Shits fvcked up for us people who cant stand that shit.

It's nice from Late April to mid October, pretty much half of the year. I couldn't stand living in a place that all 4 seasons didn't have distinct differences. And we only have 2 seasons in Michigan, Winter and Road Construction.

We only have two season in Florida.

Hurricane Season and Summer.

Ok, I just moved to my new town here in Tennessee. My girlfriend and I were at a strip mall and we needed to get a few items for dinner so she suggested going to ALDI - ive never heard of the place before. So we walk in and I look about and it seems to be one of those bottom dollar grocery stores where the employees dont even look up at you when you walk by or much less speak english.
Well, we snag some Texas Toast and get a frozen lump of off brand lasagna and some GT Cola then begin to proceed to the checkout counter. Well, plop down our potentially poorly tasting dinner down on the rubber roller mat and the items slide up to the checkout women had clearly had a small gene pool from which she spawned from. She slid the food past the laser scanner and put the food onto a counter to the right of her and then glared at us. I sorta look back at her too and then my GF says "oh look, the sign says we gotta bag it ourselves".

So im like, OK. I can understand that this place can barely keep the freezers running so they're most likely trying to cut costs in general. I get that.

So I this is the further contents of the conversation.

Me : "OK, well can I get a bag to put this in?"

Woman : "uhm....no. You gotta buy a bag to put your stuff in"

Me : (PUZZLED....then looks down at bags under the shelf in front of me, then peers at $1.99 cost) "uhm....a little pricey dont ya think?"

Woman : "well, you can bring in your walmart bags, or hell .... just go in the back and get an empty box"

Me : (WTF look) "uh....I guess i'll just hold my food"

Then the woman actually puts our recipt in the basket in front of her checkout counter, so me thinking that she's going to be cool and put the food in the basket too - I grab the big new shiney chrome basket and I ask her -

Me : "Can I at least take the basket? :wow:"

Woman : "nah, duh basket stays here. But next time you come in, you can put 25 cents in the basket dispenser out front (I look outside and see a coin operated cart despenser similar to the ones found at the airport) and it will give you a basket....then when you're done with it you can return it and get your 25 cents back. Thats so that people will bring da carts back after they use them"

Me : "So let me get this right, you wont give me a bag that costs .01 cents for your company, but you have no problem about me taking your brand new chrome shopping carts for 25 cents."

i can see your miff'd but thats how they keep prices down. sorta like a sam's club no bags..lol as for cart they do that so they dont lose them or have to pay someone to chase them, ghey as it sounds but ehy thats the idear.

Aldi is the shit. They do the things the way they do to keep the prices down. 95% of the Items are Aldi made. I like the joint. Charging for the baskets keeps from hiring a cart boy. Bagging your own saves from hiring a bag box. So on and so on. Where else can you fill a cart and pay close to nothing other than a Kroger during hurricane Katrina?

You all missed the point. They wanted me to buy a $1.99 bag to shop with....so they wouldnt have to pay for the .01 cent bags that you'd find at walmart. BUT they had no problem with me putting 25 cents into the shopping cart dispenser and then taking their brand new chrome shiney shopping cart (which probably costs $15 each wholesale) and putting it in the back of my truck and taking it home //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

I don't think they intended for you to take the cart home. Most people leave them there, or return the cart for your deposit back.

This is why I shop at Publix, certain things may cost a bit more, but the opportunity to avoid welfare moms and their screaming kids running around the store is indeed worth the cost.

This is why im trying to avoid walmart these days. I know that sounds snobby, but it is what it is //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

I don't think it's snobby at all. Plus the WIC families that nearly always cause management to get involved because the stupidass parents got the wrong kind of cheese or whatever.
