alarm location question

im going to be installing my Viper 690XV with 2 way paging

what could i expect as for range if i mount the antenna inside the dash, directly on the bottom of the plastic of the dash

ive heard it would make a big difference but its just under like a 1/4" of plastic at the very front of the dash so its within like an inch of the bottom of the windshield?

also how much would it affect if the lead wire for the ant isnt fully extended? meaning some of it left coiled up

Without a direct line of sight to the antenna your range will suffer some. But if its just an alarm it will get you the 10 feet or so of range you need.
