airborne cryptologic linguist or applied geophysics

got my asvab back... 91 qt, m 92, g 89, e 96

basically i qualify for every job available, except pilot (which requires bachelors degree and civilian pilots liscence)... i've narrowed my top #1 choice to airborne cryptologic linguist or applied geophysics... the applied geophysics is basically monitering the nuclear prolifieration treaty which is looking for nuke blast's and stuff like that... the airborne cryptologic linguist on the otherhand is flying over countries listening to like 50 communications at once and trying to figure out which is important and which is fone ***... both offer great bonus pay (everytime you go in the air its like 3x normal pay) ... i cant figure out which i want...

i will probably just choose whichever has less of a delayed deployment time...

i goto meps march 2nd ... and from then its just however long the delayed deployment is and im off to basic //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Either would be fun, IMO. I'd say the airborne cryptologist/linguist would be the better choice. Better pay (if what you said holds up) and you'd probably be put on one of the safest planes in our entire arsenal (RC-135 Rivet Joint). GG on those scores. ACL is one of the hardest, if the the-hardest jobs to get and master in the AF. Tech school is like 2 friggin years! I think you have to know or learn a few different languages as well. Just because your scored good on your ASVAB doesen't mean you have to pick these jobs you know... Got any questions about Bootcamp/Tech School or anything about Active Duty AF, hit me up!

Only thing about the linguist, A lot of the linguists I worked with, hated being a linguist after a while. Especially the arab linguists. That may not be the case for you, who knows. But they all said the best time they ever had was their time at DLI in Monterey, they said that it was all worth it to go there for 1.5yrs+. I'd still vote linguist though, if you can get a language you want. If you dont care, then I definitely vote for it.

Don't do anything nuclear unless you want to live in Montana. Both those jobs need a TS so I hope you have good credit.

And if you get an assignment to Misawa AB, Japan trade it.

i was talkin to some people and they said in some of the airborne jobs like the plane stays exremly low to avoid radar and when you have to go up and down up and down over high and low terrain you get EXTREMLY airsick ...

i would really liek to try explosive ordinance disposal... i just want somethin thats "better" than the other jobs... not for bragging rights but just so you know, u take real pride in what ur doing

ya, id have to learn one of the category IV languages which is a 63 week long course (well over a year) , then attend DFILFC, then enlisted aircrew undergraduate coruse, then i will undergo combat, water, and survival training @ firchild AFB, then aircraft qualification training at offutt AFB

WOW dident realise it was like 5 different courses...

Eeeeeeyea... something I would never even think about doing. Don't listin to your damn recruiter either. Talk to people that are in right now. There are hundreds of jobs in the AF, look at all of them. You don't wanna start pulling your hair out before you even get to your first base.

What was your score on the DLAB? I got a 99 2 or 3 points short of class IV languages, so I didnt take a language. I wanted Korean or Japanese.

Just wondering.

Also, what language are you going for? Arabic? P/Farsi?

Office = Some Pretty-boy office guy that knows nothing about hands on and gets little respect from enlisted who actually DO the job.

They make some money, yes.. but have to pay back all their loans and don't get BAS or clothing allowence every year. There lots to know about the military that most people don't realise.
