My 6 X 9 kenwood speakers are currently mounted in the stock location ( the bottom of the doors) in my full size van, and have been there for 5 years. The problem is that they are aimed at the step and a lot of the sound seems to get blocked. If I open the doors 6 inches or so the sound quality and volume improves greatly.
On paper I've designed a mount which will aim the cone of the speaker upward, over the step, and I'm concerned that having the speaker 30 degrees off the axis of the swinging door will ruin the speaker when slamming the door. It's an old van and I have to keep the doors tight to the frame to keep them from whistling, so they must be closed hard. I've had no problems with them when the were flat on the door, But I'm worried that their momentum at an angle will damage them.
Should I be worried?
I cannot move them higher in the door due to the windows, and Have found no other location I want to put them.
Thanks in advance
