After reading so many hate threads in responce to Caps I thought Id give my two cents

My 2 farad Cap works wonders for large fast power drains, only in short hits though, Keeps a much more stable 12.5 volts under power

Keep in mine as it has been said people Ive done my Big 3, Optima batt, and 175 amp alt.

Still having large power drians lights dim (My old school Hifonics Is a Beast //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I actully just ordered (e-bay real cheap) a 15 farad cap, not sure how much more it will help out for quick power drops but I will let yall know.

um... steady 12.5 volts? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eyebrow.gif.fe2c18d8720fe8c7eaed347b21ea05a5.gif

Thats bad. Seriously. the alt charges approx 14.4v, and if youre losing 2v.. then either you have a wiring problem, or ur drawing WAAAY too much current, and is draining ur batt. turn it down a bit and save urself the hassle of having to replace ur alt at an early age before you can afford a HO alty.

12.5 Volts is under full power with AC so on, besides my HO alt which has been bench tested at Well over 180 amps only puts out 13.5 volts

It most cases I agree, I think they have a small purpose in a few setups like mine

ummm... capacitors are a bandaid on a broken bone... period

Thats not right. Alts should charge at 14+ volts, but no higher than 14.6

Why no higher than 14.6? I frequently get 14.7, 14.8 out of mine according to several different measuring devices including a calibrated Fluke meter. It's completely dependant on the build of the alternator in question.

... im talking about idle voltage. Yes, it will come up to about 14.8 normally, but much higher and you may have an issue with the regulator. Also, big three will also make it charge a lil higher. But yes, the build does have an effect on the charge voltage.

I should have said that before.

Ive often wished I was regulated at 14.5 Vlots //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif however my top off is 13.5

Idle with AC is like high mid 12s

Think I would be able to have a shop replace the regulator on my alt for 14.5?

um. who built the alt? you may be able to have it changed.
I really cant remeber, Bought it brand new from a reputable shop in another state about 1 1/2 years ago.

It never went over 13.5 volts from day one, actully had to replace the regualtor once before because of a user error. I brought it to a local guy, thats when It was bench tested at over 180 amps, and the new reg was same as the old with 13.5 vlots

This is what i imagined as i read your thread title...

You runngin into a room full of the ca members that actually do know something. They were talking about Alts and batts, and FI, and Warlords. Then you come running in with a tshirt that sais noobie on it screaming capacitor wearing a football helmet. Covering your chest with your arms, and holding a cap in your hand. lol.

Rather funny indeed. Maybe I should have mentioned that I am an expirenced Car audio enthusiast for over ten years. And have worked in pro shops in the Daytona beach area for several years.

Perhaps you have heard of the Spring Break Nationals?? where much of my workmanship has been showcased over the past few years.

I undersatnd your take on cap's and I respect that. However Ive done many pro installs at my shop that Caps have proved VERY effective, Granted the Alt, batt's and wiring were as they should be first.

But wow you love to jump at anything that remotly smells like a Noob thread to you huh?

Maybe learn something about someone first dude before assuming anything
