Afraid it will disappoint

My roommate is looking to put 4 x 8" assassin's in the trunk of his car. He will be running about 1600watts rms to the 4 in a sealed box of recommended size.

The reason for this is that he has limited space in the trunk but want tight bass. Doesnt listen to too much rap, mostly trance and rock/metal.

Will this compare closly to 2 10" rockford p2's with about 800rms total sealed?

I would hope it is more but I dont know alot about 8" subs, look so little...

4 8's would be way more cone area than 2 10's and therefore should be louder with 400 watts each. and someone correct me if im wrong but 8's and 12's can reproduce the same sound, its just how loud it can get with the given cone area?

p2s are crap
Dont you just love it when people reply to a thread with worthless information that has nothing to do with what you asked to begin with?

To answer your question, I think the 8" assassins will sound really nice. He will like them, the only problem I see right now is ordering them due to the lack of prodution from AA because they are upgrading

Don't you just love it when people don't read the whole thread before they start ragging on other people's posts? The OP asked how the Assassins would compare to 2 10" P2s. Granted, the other guy's comment was rather incomplete, but it was relevant nonetheless.

How hard will they be to get?
Ascendant Audio shows all their products as "Unavailable" right now. However, I would call them or send them an email because they are releasing new versions of most of their products, so it might just list them that way until they can get the website changed around.

4 8's have a cone area of ~200 sqin. 2 10's have a cone area of 160sqin. Not as big of a difference as you would think.

If you are talking about two subwoofers of the same line (eg assassin 8 vs assassin 10) then yes you are correct.

To the OP: If he can wait for the new assassin 8s to come out, I think he would VERY happy with the setup.

just get four Mach 5 audio 10's and run them in isobaric configuration. that way it's half the box size of 4 10's and will be nice and punchy for trance/dance (which is mostly what I listen to anyways, so I understand the perspecitive.)

plus they're pretty easy on the wallet.
When I get some extra cash I'm gonna order one of their drivers for the hell of it. Probably the 10, maybe 12"

Any info on the member here getting USA shipments cheaper shipping ?

He might be better off with 2 8" assassins in the spec ported box. Running that set up in the GF's car and it's VERY tight/accurate and gets respectably loud. Doesn't dig as deep as my 15's, but I wouldn't expect it to.

Not sure how loud he's looking for, but 4 8's ported should be plenty loud and accurate/tight. I see no reason to run them sealed....

1600watts for 4 would be perfect as I'm running 800 to 2 of them.

They will be sealed because of the lack of space. We will be barely making the sealed enclosure size...

How about the 9Kv.2? Would 4 of them do wiell?

He'll barely be making the .2cf per driver? That's a little box. Exactly what are the outer dimensions that you're working with?

Check CAMSHAFTs review of the 8's in this section about the eDs.

That's a 25% increase in cone area and double the amount of motor moving it. More significant than you think.

Doesn't even matter if they are the same line. Driver size on its own has zero to do with frequency resopnse. Get the idea of "tighter bass" from smaller drivers and "deeper bass" from larger ones out of your head because it is fiction. The only direct corellation that can be made based on size of the driver is that the larger one has the POTENTIAL to get louder across the entire frequency range with all other things being equal. Since all other things never are equal, even with different size drivers of the same brand and line using the same motor, even that generality won't hold true with certainty.
