!!!Aeroport LOVERS!!!

When built properly, either would give the same 'sound'. Aeroports will allow you to use less port area though, keeping your box size to a minimum. That's really an aeroport's main advantage over slot ports.
got it, so if it was slotted, then 10^3 will be fine, but if using aeroports, something around 8^3 correct. the sub i was thinking requires either 2.0-2.5 cubic feet, and each sub is 600rms, and the amp i had in mind to power 4 of them will be a sundown 3000d. basically each sub will get 750rms, should wang nicely.

The main advantage of aero's is the ability to change your tuning to whatever you want in a matter of minutes //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Removable slot ports allow that as well, so I dont list that as an advantage of aero's.

I remember when MD built their blazer. They had a clamshell w/ aeroports and it sucked. They filled in the ports and it hit hard.
You have to remember that a clamshell is actually a type of 4th order bandpass. Once you start porting those enclosures, it's basically going to act like a 6th order. Once you go there it is extremely tricky to get right.
win.

The speaker is moving the same amount whether the port is flared or not, creating the same pressure difference in the box, creating the same airflow through the same diameter port. The only change is the turbulence exhibited.
A 6" tube in a box will allow the same amount of air flow through it whether the ends are sharp, or flared ends.

We are not discussing engine exhaust systems.
so if the air can move more freely, it can exert more force though, correct?

which would mean the flared part would increase something, not only decrease turbulence..

i have no idea, i've never spent much time on the subject, i'm just asking a question. lol.

Yes, but you have to continuously make new ports for each and every box unless you happen to have the same port opening every single time. With aero's all that you need to bring with you are cut up pieces of pvc so that you can extended or shorten your ports. For SPL testing I could not imagine cutting out new ports every single time I build a box.

A lack of turbulence will not equate to any noticeable increase in output. And that would only be applicable when comparing an aeroport to a too-small slot port. A slot port built correct will not exhibit any more turbulence than would a properly built aero setup.
Lakota, slot ports can be made/modified easily as well. As easily as cutting a piece of pvc? No not really. But for the vast majority of people, even those wanting interchangeable ports, that's not a very high priority. Yes aero's are slightly easier to change out, but still not enough to list as a distinct advantage over slot port systems.

Its easy enough to make your slot ports the same size from box to box, if that's important to you. If you cant due to requiring different port area, you'd have to run a different aeroport too.

Im really tempted to order a 21.
You're the king of satisfied. you've had your same set-up for how long?

Good excuse to try something new. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Yeah but my system is always down. lol
I dont want to change, I just want a 21" DP. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif I have other vehicles I could put one in. Hmmm.

I dont get too excited about new subs much anymore. But I have to admit the 21" DP's are quite appealing. A single sub setup that would stomp just about any other multi-sub setup would be pretty cool. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

You should really check out the new ED 13AV.2 :p

Also what is up with your setup, wanted to see that box of yours in action

I want to see it in action too. lol
Its been going slow. The dual alternator setup is being a pita, and that's had me dragging my feet on all the rest of it. I just got the batts mounted though, and made a custom fuse holder.

I tore into the hummer last month for a 2-day fix and its still in pieces. I have too many projects. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
