This is my first post on this forum... first of many, hopefully. I just got a hold of a bunch of stuff that I am planning on installing, and I wanted to make sure all the wiring was okay.

  • JL 500/1
  • JL 10w7 in 1.25 cubes
  • PPI PC450
  • Scotche 1 Farad Cap
Now, tell me if this sounds acceptable:

Battery Terminal Post with 2 gauge wire running to distribution block in the trunk, 4 guage from distribution block to each amp (fused), and 4 guage local grounding for each amp...

1. Should I run a ground distribution block or should I go with local grouding?

2. What size fuses should I be considering for each 4 guage line to the amps?

3. Is the 1 farad Cap necessary or should I consider going with something like the Kinetic?

Any and all advice is appreciated. Frankly, I haven't done car audio since high school and I feel like it has changed a plenty.

Cheers.

1. Should I run a ground distribution block or should I go with local grouding? IMO, local grounding

2. What size fuses should I be considering for each 4 guage line to the amps? Fuse should be located within 12" of battery

3. Is the 1 farad Cap necessary or should I consider going with something like the Kinetic? IMO, cap shouldn't be required, may want to get your charging system checked first - AutoZone etc can do this for free

Lose the cap, if you have dimming do the Big 3 and maybe add a kinetic.

I'd use a 300amp fuse close to the battery incase you want to upgrade. I've got one for 10 shipped if you want it. It uses 2 150amp fuses....

if your amps have on board fuses, there should be no need to fuse the 4 gauge runs... i'd ground from the amps, no need to ground the distro block imo... the cap is unnecessary, i'd bet you wont even need a second batt, depending on the car, your electrical should be able to handle it. maybe try the big three? caps are useless...

Cheers, I was hesitant to put that piece of *** cap anywhere... anyone intersted in buying it for hmmm $20.00? hah.

Are the proposed wire guages correct? overkill?

Im installing this in an 02 WRX.

Cheers.

Correct me if Im wrong:

The big 3 upgrade is upgrading the guage of three OEM wires, does this affect the rest of the cars charging system? I assume not. However, wouldn't I be putting a hell of a strain on my battery/ alternator? Could I upgrade the battery to counteract this effect?

... and Im sure there are tons of threads about this, however Im wondering if theres a quick reply.

So far Im impressed at the level of activity on this forum and how quickly Im getting responses back.

Cheers, guys.

Not upgrading, adding..and it will help ur charging system. You could alwasy just add a kinetic or yellow top.

Heres a pic of the voodoo, page 8 top anl fuse holderHere
