Advice needed on wire gauge

Hi

I was planning to run 16 gauge speaker wire for my install. The new speakers that i purchased came with around 12 inches of wire already terminated with the speaker connectors and a clear rubber cap that covers the connector, it looks really well done and clean. The problem is that this wire has "0.3 sq mm" written on it which i believe is 22 gauge. I wanted to run 16 gauge. I imagine that it is not possible to use a butt connector to connect the 22 gauge to 16 gauge, right?

So what is my best option here? It is my first install and i would prefer to use butt connectors instead of solder.

Thanks for any help.

J

I used 4 runs of 12 (I think it was) throughout the system, with 3kW@1 ohm nominal on a quick and dirty temporary build. Worked fine.

Edit: It was 14, and every time you double something, it goes up 3 in the AWG chart, so I was using 14-3=11-3=8AWG. 4 runs of 14AWG=8AWG.
