adjusting amp settings and bass knob

but if he sets the gains to the proper voltage with the knob up, then turning the knob down when he is not in the mood for as much bass, will only reduce the bass from its full, non-clipping, potential...correct?? this seems pretty reasonable to me, a good way of using the knob and still having no clipping...

exactly...thats the way i use my remote knob, and it works just fine...

I am gonna un hook the knob tommrow and see how well it does. I did notice though when i have the bass turned up on the headunit all the way and then turn the knob that it doesnt really make it much louder

The way i set my bass knob is to turn it all the way up, then set your gain on the amp. This way with the knob turned up all the way, you are not clipping the amp.
Set your subsonic filter 2-5 hz below your tuning frequency.

I keep my low pass around 75-80 hz.

For subsonic....... Ahhh I think it can be a bit lower depending on subs etc. I was tuned to 38.5hz if memory serves on my ex. And I had the subsonic around 28hz. Worked fine. Personally I usually end up setting it around my neg 3. Also people please use a DMM to set subsonic. On one of my systems I had the subsonic around 32to 35hz by the dial. And I turned it down to about 25hz and my 45hz got louder lol. Better to do it with a DMM due to the dials are very rarely correct.

OH OH yeah I forgot. And in 4th orders you can set it WAY below tuning lol. 25hz or more depending on box

I like the remote knob, sometimes I want loud bass and sometimes I want moderate bass, the knob does just that for me, like other said, just set the gains with this knob at full, then throttle back as desired.
