adjustable port...

how would all you go about building a adjustable port? I've heard of switchin out pvc, but i heard slot ports are best for spl. I wanna make a trick lookin enclosure but not have to switch it out for another for competitions. I've seen a round port thats like bendy, and adjustable, anyway, whats the best way to do this?

well a port is a port.....doesnt really matter if its round or square.....the square's are supost to have less port noise......but if the round port is of suffecient size it shouldnt have much if any port noise...i'd suggest jus using the round port and just having different lengths of pvc pipes that can be swapped out.....but out of curiosity why would u want an adjustable port???

4" diameter should be pretty decent.....might go a bit larger if possible....but i believe 4" should be suffecient......dont know if u have the budget for it or not....but u could always jus make a 2nd box for that situation.....thats what i plan on doing when i get the time ..........but depending on how much time u wanna spend it may not be worth it to u......but

yeh, i mean $20 for wood isnt a big deal, but i want to make something that looks nice, but still is real good for competitions. The box i plan to make would probaly need some assembling in the car itself, because of the design, so it would be a pain to switch the box's out. I think as long as i have about 5 cubes, theres no reason to make another box.

alright, the box is 4 cu ft with a removable round port (top port). The bottom two port holes are covered for now. For competitions you make a simple box, just an air box. You use like straight or right angle pvc all air tight to connect the two bottom ports to the "air space" box, and now switch out the top port to the correct length for lets say a now 6 cu ft box. This would be because you dont want to uninstall a nice box, but you want to compete with more air space. Just poped in my head, tell me what ya think...

sounds ****ed up....at least when i first read it. Then i looked at the pic and read it again...and if it works, it works. Good idea, but have no clue if anything like that would work or better yet perform well. peace

ok.....its a great idea....i did something similar in a friends car, but it was not changable. Heres the thing....I think you need to make those connecting pipes fairly large.....mabey 2 of them that are at LEAST 4 inches to get proper air flow and avoid noise and all that good stuff. I think what you were going to do was take the pvc out and cap the holes when your not using the extra air space, but you might as well glue off the pvc together and then stick a couple of valves in there, that way it is all air tight and VERY easy to swap over.....take some paint to all the pvc and finish it nicely and you have a kick ***, unique enclosure.
