adio explores upper-class black neighborhood.....

i grew up around affluent african americans. I've known more poor white people than black people and WAY more white people in debt than black people (because the CC companies don't give black males credit cards unless they are in college).
general society has no clue of the money the african american community has, this site proves it over and over
Then you're an anomaly! To say that throughout life you know more poor white people than black. Either you live near a very large Nascar crowd or you know a disproportionate # of the Obamaesque crowd.

Unfortunately I have met very few model black citizens throughout my schooling and career. The few that I have interfaced with in school and work have been helped by race specific scholarships/grants or preferential hiring practices.

White Corporate America is dying to diversify their workforce and will bend over backwards to hire and promote competent African Americans. I've seen and experienced it firsthand.

1st. you dont look 342nd. im glad you pointed this out. to give a different look. i myself never ever had heard or thought a place like this was real.

3rd. i think its awesome that this place kills all stereotypes about black neighborhoods.

4th. its sad that there are such a tiny amount of places like this that it makes it into books.

5th. i would have told that guy im recording my trip. if he had more questions id just roll up the window.

6th. i deliver pizzas part time and ALWAYS keep my car remote started, doors locked and lights on when in any neighborhood 60%black or more because of the crime rate. but id feel fine not doing those things in that neighborhood.
1. thanks. no kids, no wife, blessed and a membership to ballys

2. thank you. that means alot to me that someone is geniuely glad or 1/2 way glad that i do things like this. this stuff takes alotta time believe it or not and talkin to strangers isn't always easy.

3. me too

4. i know

5. he thought i was comin to jack his shit!! i thought it was annoying and spectacular at the same time. i wish i woulda got out the car and actually got his face

6. i would too honestly. but in neighborhoods like that, even the smallest crimes are very next to zero

i'm stereotypin atl with this question....... isn't alot of that black wealth from entertainers and athletes?
no my friend. most rich people in Atlanta own businesses and work for major corporations like coca cola and wachovia

the term model citizen is relative. The worst, most immature, destructive individuals I've been around where upper class white people in college. They didn't care about school, drank and did drugs, got involved in dangerous and reckless activities, then graduated school and got a job through nepotism and now make a ton of money //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wow.gif.23d729408e9177caa2a0ed6a2ba6588e.gif. Now to everyone else they seem normal but behind closed doors they were pretty screwed up (one of my white roommates grew marijuana plants for goodness sake).

When it comes to african americans, a lot of the misunderstanding is due largely in part to the media. Most black people are not poor (when we talk about legal poverty). And most poor black people don't want to be poor and work 2,3 jobs to support their families. A few that act crazy in public lead all to be labeled as such (for instance when in North Carolina visiting my parents there were some really loud obnoxious blacks in macys, all I could do is smh).

cribs: race does not = a certain class and wealth does not mean you are a good person.

This sort of thing goes on with everyone though - regardless of race or creed.

u never know man. growing up in bowie, mitchellville or woodmore ur surrounded by black affluence. when u move someone else, u'd think it was abnormal for black people to be poor or lazy or uneducated or undereducated. that same thing would apply to white people..... ' i can't believe these people don't wanna do anything with their lifes accept smoke cigarettes, fix cars and drink beer all day. and then they have the nerve to talk about blacks bein bad'.

depends on your back ground

of the richest black people in america most didn't go to college or didn't finish. They built their businesses into empires then retired or sold it. Remember, to be rich in America, you have to OWN, if you not writing the checks then you aren't in the top spot. Most people that do life the "american way" (go to college, graduate, get a job) are in middle class besides doctors, lawyers, and choice specialty fields like engineering and architecture. To be a major player you have to own and make money off of others' hard work.

those "wreck less" kids you knew in school OBVIOUSLY got their shit done... AND OH NOEZ!! NOT TEH MARRIWANNAZ PLANTZZZZZ?!??1! im not bashing any race here, im just pointing out things that dont seem legitimate to me. i've never lived out side of florida, but here in gainesville, if you take a drive through the predominately black neighborhoods you will see what they are doing. NOTHING. i see half of the 'hood' sitting on their front porches flickin their beans and shooting the shit, oh yeah, i shouldve asked how their 2nd and 3rd jobs were coming though. and no one please take this out of context, im not trying to come off as a racist, or supremacist, hell, i'd join em out on their porches if i had the time. like i said, im just pointing out what I (which mean this is an opinion) think is untrue.

well that's the problem, you've never been outside of florida. America is a huge country, way bigger than one state. Your view is of a small population, but you deflect it on an entire race. Now if you said "the black people in gainesville" then well it is what it is. But that only represents a small percentage of the african americans in this country. If I judged all white people by the ones I went to school with I'd have a pretty negative view of white people as a whole. but that would be just ignorant for me to do so of course I wouldn't do that. make sense my friend

and plus they're are different types of poor. they'res working class poor ( 2 -3 jobs to make ends meet), unemployed poor, underemployed poor ( not enough hours at he 1 job) and then there's almost there but stll poor (i don't make enough for this but make too much for that)

i figured what you bolded in my quote made it self explanatory. i guess thats why i get for assuming. and yes, i completely understand what you're saying, because, as you stated, if i let JUST the black gainesville population shape my views on their race/culture then i would probably be a huge racist.

good point.
