Adding one battery will put more load on alternator??

Hi, trhe car battery is a capacitor( takes power from alternator, and when the car is off, it becomes a source and provides power to use some lights and turn on the car) right?:S i dont want to u se a capacitor although i want to put 3 amplifiers in the car. Electrician told me, well add one battery in the trunk, wire both batteries in parallel etc....But the alternator would have to charge battery1/battery2/and my amplifiers and its even worst than using my system with only one battery right??? adding more batteries means adding more load on alternator, so i must change the alternator and keep the same battery? When u say bigger alternator, it means it will still outputs about 13.8-14V but MORE CURRENT?? We do care about current not voltage:S All alternators will output the same voltage but not same current. And if i get a bigger alternator, would it damage my battery?? because it will charge it very fast??? thx a lotttttt

I ran systems back when the power hog amps were being sold. I used Hifonics Zeus amps for subs and they really pulled current. I barely had money to buy the equip. so a high current alt. was out of the question. I installed 2 extra batteries all in parallel. Never do it in series because it raises voltage too high. 2 12 volt batteries wired in series will produce 24 volts. The 2 big batteries really helped my system at the time. My voltage would not drop nearly as bad as with one battery. Amp power was better and the amps stayed cooler. Like you said it is a reserve. Your alternator will be fine with an extra battery.

Later on, I finally bought a high current alternator. Gained 3 dbs by just bolting it on.

What i cant understand is that the power is extracted from the battery or alternator when the car is running??:S:S when the car is on battery will act as a load and when its full, alternator will stop and battery will become a source, and then load, then source etc...true?But sice almost all the time the battery will keep ******* power from the alternator because it will only be full for a second or two( most of the time its a load),, then the power is sucked from alternator not battery when the car is on? am i right?//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif i am lost.

So adding another battery to my main one, wont do anygood cz most of t he time the two batteries are a load=> amplifiers will only draw current from alternator when car is on? thx

Your correct in some ways. But, a battery can store power for the amp to pull bursts from. It weakens slightly as this happens and the alternator charges it more. An alternator has no storage and wouldn't make a good component to power an amp from by itself. You need storage. Yes, more batteries will work an alternator harder than one, but an amp yanking power from it evertime bass hits will be harder on it. The batteries work as a buffer between the amp and alternator.

This reminds me of an air compressor. A bigger tank works the compressor harder, but without the storage of the large tank you don't have much air volume and the compressor would be working constantly.

This may make no sense. It is hard to explain. Extra batteries help a high powered stereo system.

when the car is one tha batteries are getting charged. The load is still on the batteries. you can't have just an alternator in your car to run the system. The current that it ouputs is not always the same, a battery stabalizes the charge.
