Adding an 8

I'm thinking about adding a single Rockford Fosgate Punch Stage 2- 8" sub to my already existing system which consists of a Pioneer DEH3700 HU, 2- 4" Pioneer in-dash, and 2- A6961R 6x9's in the back.

Currently I do have a problem with dimming of the HU when there are bass hits on the existing setup, but that's only when trying to push out a lot of bass. The dimming isn't nearly as bad when the truck is running, but it will show if you look. My question is if I add this RF 8" in a custom box (I've chosen my dimensions so it fits behind the seat so a sealed box with .249 ft³) behind a RF 200x1 amp would that just completely drain all electrical potential I have? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

My truck has a 60 Amp alternator, a good battery, but is stock everything. So considering that, if I ran the HU on a neutral EQ (with little bass) to power my speakers, and just relied completely on the Sub for bass would my problems only worsen with dimming? Or would I be able to swing it?

Thanks.

Another question, within this thread...

Is it ok to run a single 8, w/ a single 12" if you are running the 8 as more of a mid-range speaker?

Bump

Could I get by with just upgrading the ground wires. The problem is that my battery + to alternator + goes from the battery, inot the fuse box, across the front of the truck over to the opposite side, through an independent fuse box, then down to the alternator. So, I'd end up having to make 3 separate pieces of wire. Would just upgrading the grounds help?

If the 8" is running different frequencies than the 12", you should be fine. Otherwise you will get cancellation something fierce. The problem I could see, if you don't run the 12" into high enough frequencies, you won't be using the 12 to its potential. Same goes for the 8" but the other way around. Most 8s I've seen run as low as 30Hz, some even lower than that. The problem with the 8" sub is some subs don't do very well past 120Hz, even then, why would you want to run that high?

The answer is you wouldn't want to run higher than that, at least not in mono, and from behind you. *shrug* I wouldn't even want to run that high.

One subwoofer size should be plenty to fill the in the sub-stage frequencies. Do not confuse subbass with midbass. Subbass is omnidirection, its location and stereo seperation are not important. Midbass is not omnidirectional.

It's just a fused wire going from battery to alternator. Screw the fuse blocks, just run a big wire from your battery to the alternator and throw in a 100 amp fuse within a foot of the battery. Is it really that difficult?

Upgrading only the ground will help, but it's just the equivalent of fixing a totalled car with duct tape and twist ties. You need to do ALL of the big 3 for it to work. That's why it's the big 3 and not the big 2 or big 1.
