adding 14v batt bank??

You can add it but you'll damage the batteries if you don't also up the alternator voltage. Fourteen volt batteries need about 16 volts of charge current in order that they charge properly and completely and in typical car or truck, especially one with PCM controlled voltage regulation, you don't get that much voltage.

Also, if you're not very well versed or you're not paying someone who is, I would advise against upping the battery voltage in your car. There are a lot of electronic control modules and sensors in modern vehicles that either don't operate correctly with voltage that high or, don't operate at all with voltage that high. And if you don't know how to set the system up, you can do thousands of dollars of damage to your vehicle's electrical system in a matter of seconds.

i know the proper way to do it is with more than one alt with a higher charging voltage for the higher volt bank but i was wondering if i could get away with a bank of 14 volt cells that i keep on a trickle charge after a hard load is put on em with out dule alts.... no way can 14 volts hurt a system that runs on 14.4 when car running lmao. btw its not a car i drive daily...

ugg guess ima stay with a 12 volt system then... to change alt means droping motor ;-/ i guess i could get away with charging 2 14 volt cells outa the car and hooking em up when i wana hit a high db lol. i wana break 150

I upgraded my alternator from a 12V bank of 3100s to be externally regulated and now my whole car runs off 14V. My charging voltage is 16.3V and my cars electronics handle it fine. Only difference I noticed was brighter headlights lol. I could run up to 16.8 but my amps cut off at 16.5. But there's a definite dB increase to be had.

Long as your car is like '05 or older you're probably fine. But troll around on some car forums to find out what voltage changes do to your make/model. My new Subaru would need a step down circuit so I just went 12V in there

I'd stick to a 12 volt system. You could make an ultracap bank or 2 and charge them up to 16.2. They are dangerous, but if you know what you are doing, and you are careful, there is more to gain. Plus you can leave them installed for daily use, and cause no damage charging at 14.4
