Active with hu and amp in conjunction?

Would it be possible to go active using crossover points provided by the head unit and the amplifier together?

Example. Set hu highpass for rear speakers to 80 hz then amp rear outputs with amp and set lowpass at 2Khz. Then run front preout to 2 more channels with highpass se to 2 khz?

Is this a crazy idea or could it possibly work?
