Active setup: Basic Crossover Settings?

Im planning on trying out the Active way....I have a P860 HU. Currently Im undecided on amp and speakers, but whats a good starting point for crossover freqs? Is 4500hz HP for tweets to high?

a decent rule of thumb for determining tweeter highpass x-over points is to find out the fs of the tweeter and double and there is your x-over point...as for you mids find some mids that play flat as possible up to or close to your tweeter x-over points and start playing with points around your tweeter x-over point...as for your mid lowpass start around 80hz and work around that

i'd start around 3.5-4k for both the mids and tweets. underlap or overlap if need be. find the FS of the tweeters you are planning to use. take the fs spec and double it, that area will be a safe point for the tweeter

cool. i'd say just be careful with the tweeter. the only thing that can really go wrong would be playing the tweeter to low and killing it. the mids can't get hurt from playing to high, they just won't sound right. so the only real concern is how low the tweeters can safely play.

Im thinking of just throwing my Kicker ks20 tweeters in that have been laying around. They come with a crossover which I wouldnt use anyway. The specs on those say 4500 hp. They seem like decent tweets, they can take 95w rms each but I probably wouldnt ever go that high.

try them out. don't be afraid to try them lower than 4500. you won't be using 95 watts on them so they should be ok lower.
