Active Crossover

Well form I understand from what everyone else is telling me, your amplifier will not be able to run active, because it lacks the ability to use both the low and high pass filter at the same time. If I'm right then it means i have learned... however you're head unit might be able to... i wouldn't know tho

thats what i dont understand. your saz-100.4 says it can run not only low or high but a full crossover including both low and high crossovers.

my orion has the option to either have low, high or full.

So i dont see what the problem is...

i think full just means there is no crossover filtering anything out and that the amplifier is running the full signal... but hopefully someone who knows a bit more can chime in, because I'm basically just regurgitating what I've figured out from what I've been told here...

The problems with using the built in crossover in most amps when trying to run an active setup are 1) it has no capability to bandpass the mids 2) the crossover freqs can't be set high enough to be used for the division between the mid and the tweet. The Sundown amp has a very good crossover in regards to problem 2). Jacob was thinking when he spec'd that one out for sure. Couple that with the fact that most people that are comtemplating an active setup have a HU capable of at least putting a highpass filter on the front/rear outputs and issue 1) is taken care of.

I'm not sure of the adjustable range on the crossover on the 8004. If it can go as high as 3-4kHz, then it would be usable with the addition of a basic 2-way to highpass the mids.
