Active compatible - double check?

So after trying to find a 5 channel block for my upcoming system, I have realized that I can actually go active; cheaper.

Instead of splurging on the Eclipse XA5000, I am able to get a used KAC-X650D and KAC-X810D for $100.

Power flow:

MBQ Discus 6.5" comps ------ KAC-X650D (60x4@4)

MBQ Discus 6.5" Coaxs

AA Assassin 12"-------------- KAC-X810D (400x1@4)

Then amps into an active xover and then to Pioneer DEH-P680MP.

The HU has a 2-way crossover adjustment.

What kind of active xover am I looking for? (onboard EQ would be nice). And how does this all look in terms of active compatability?

You could go with the 880prs, and wont need an external crossover.

Ehh...looks nice, but I already bought the 680P; gotta work with what I got.

I use the Coustic XM6 it is a very nice crossover.

Let me just get one thing straight, the above mentioned xover has a highpass range of up to 8000hz. Doesn't that mean that everything above that freq will be filtered out?

wait a minute, are you going to use the passives that came with your component set? if so your 680 should do the job. just highpass the components and you are good to go.

yes it sure can. i'm guessing that when you set the xover it'll be using the "front/rear" xover and then you just bypass the amp xovers because the coaxials have a built in xover and then the passives on your component set already has the lowpass on the mids and highpass on the tweets. all you need is to highpass for the mids on the component set and you are then good to go.

A highpass filter attentuates frequencies below the crossover point.

Likewise, crossovers are not brick walls. The frequencies aren't just *gone*...the are attenuated at a certain rate, based on the slope of the crossover

And as Alpha said; if you are using the passive crossovers that came with the component set, then the Pioneer you have will have adequate crossovers for you. All you need to do is highpass the comp set and lowpass the subwoofer.
