accessory wire

i know that the accessory wire in my (crappy) 1990 ford escort is the yellow/black wire, but, my HU loses power after the ignition is turned off for more than a couple of minutes. i would like to just run my own accessory wire. i have had trouble in the past with the wiring in this car. can anyone tell me where i connect it to?

hey u think ur escort is crappy, i got an '87, probably alot worse than yours. anyway the im not positive on this but if ur losing power to ur head unit its the 12v wire thats causing the problem which is red in my car. not sure if thats also called the accesory wire. but u should be able to go to the fuse box and find the fuse that says radio on it and take out the old one and put the new wire to that. if u dont know where the fuse box is, for my car i had to take the plastic thing under the steering wheel off, then there was a metal sheild under that, and then u should be able to see the fuse box near a ton of wires. if u dont know which fuse is the one for the radio, in the glove compartment it might show a little diagram of the fuse box and which fuses are for what. i dont know how hard it is to get the fuse box off (i just took the fuse out and stuck the wire in and put the fuse back in) but it is very hard to work under there with it still mounted. i dont know if running new wire will fix ur problem. the only new wire i used for my hu was the memory wire. good luck with that.

you said you used a new "memory wire". that is the same as the "accessory wire". did you run your own? if so what did you hook it up to?
