About to buy a sub, few remaining questions

My previous setup was a JL 12w3v2 in an '02 Altima. I generally listen to hip hop and like deep bass, that you can feel, over punchy bass. i like it to sound good in the car but don't want the bass to be heard a block away. i'm also big on having bass sound good on songs without much bass (and then awesome on songs with a lot of bass).

can some folks give me some general recommendations based on the type of bass i like? i was thinking of doing the 12w3v3 b/c i def dont want to downgrade from what i used to have. i would love for a better setup, but dont want to get it too loud or too punchy.

i am not trying to spend more then $400-500 for the entire set up, and i was going to build the box myself.

Are you just looking for a single 12 or so, something that won't take up a lot of space? Is that $400 - $500 for the sub only or sub, amp, and box materials?

the $400-500 is sub, amp, and box materials, plus install. Online prices have the ampt and sub at ~$150 each.

i prefer it not to take a lot of space, thats why the 1 12", but im open to suggestions. i have a friend who has 3 10"s and that is just TOO loud. i like to hear my music also!

I vote

Sub: new SI Mag 12 for $275

Amp: something that'll do around 800 rms @ 1 ohm. If you want to keep the price down, maybe a Hifonics 1000 watt amp or something like that.

Box: Small sealed box built to SI's specs.

i have no experience with SI and have never heard of them. can you give me a little more info and perhaps compare it to the 12w3?

I second the mag.. and the amps you are looking at are all the **** of the **** amps.. its like buy a 74 plymouth acclaim.. not worth it just b/c it will break within the month..
^^
would u be able to compare the JL with the mag?

What amp do you have now? Consider a 10 or 12 w3v3 and hifonics amp with ported box or sealed for sq. I've got a RF p312d4 if your interested.
I don't have an amp just yet, i was going to buy one based on how much RMS i needed. i've had fairly similar experiences with good amps and with crappy amps so im not as worried about that.

Personally, I would place a cap of ~$150 on a driver. Since you have capped your amp price at the same, that leaves $200. So, $100 for a good quality box and $100 for install and cabling.

Parts Express has a couple of good sounding units that are worth looking at:

Concentrate on getting a clean sounding amp stable at 4 Ohms and you're good to go //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
