I always use a 1/16 drill bit to pre-drill with, and then follow it up with something to countersink the screw heads. Without a doubt the best kind of nail/screw I have ever used are 1.25" coarse thread drywall screws. The thread is spaced out much further and really grips the MDF well, as opposed to other screws that tend to shred the mdf apart after screwing and unscrewing several times...then you end up stripping the hole.

I don't need to //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif I never have my MDF split when I predrill with a 1/16 bit.

What size do you normally use, 1/8?

I only use TBII for my adhesive. The dab is just a little insurance I guess. Not really manditory, but if you try it some time you will see what I'm talking about.
I'll have to try that some time. I use construction grade subfloor adhesive for all of my joints, and it's stronger than anything I've tried before...and I get it for free also //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

i was just wondering cause i pre-drilled and then when i put the screws in it split a little bit

i predrilled with 3/32 and used i think it was #6 sheet metal screws. i used 3/4 mdf

i think the screws were a little long though.

pics will be in first post.

I used to use 2-2.5" screws when I first started doing boxes and found out shortly that it was just a hassle and unnecessary to use screws that long. The 1.25" coarse thread drywall screws are just the right length and have an insane amount of grip.
