AA Poly's

Wonder if I can still pick them up local then since AA is only 40 minutes away? I really want to try out the carbon fiber mids...
Pretty sure that AA the company isn't local to you anymore; I think their headquarters are in Las Vegas now that Scott is running things.

When I spoke to Scott some time ago, there were some concerns with the typical carbon fiber break-up on the Poly's that made a bit of a peak and dip at the upper end of the Poly's bandwidth. These things can be fixed a little bit with slight changes in cone and surround geometry. I'm very interested to see the new products.

Personally, I think AA is already in a good position and holds a very promising future. Even if I forget for a minute that the company is in excellent hands, I think looking at their existing product and future offerings makes the company very attractive for consumers and dealers alike. Now if there was just a list of dealers that I could find......

I didn't realize CF was that susceptible to cone break up. I figured it was a pretty strong material.

It is a very strong material with relatively little damping; that's why the break-up occurs. Materials like paper that have high damping exhibit little-to-no material induced break-up.

The carbon fiber cones typically are very nice at lower frequencies because they remain rigid and behave as a near-perfect piston: the result is usually clean, accurate bass. It is the break-up that usually falls in the 2-3 kHz range that needs to be managed correctly.

Ahh ok. Resonance induced break up?

Yeah I just found out they're in Vegas now, only Epik is out in McHenry I guess.

Wonder how the move to "dealer only" will affect pricing? Seems it will only go up, and that doesn't seem like a good thing. IMO AA's niche in the market was their perf/price ratio. I saw some prices posted on SSA on some subs and if accurate they seemed priced too high compared to other stuff on the market, especially online. Also got a quote on the CF mids and it's a LOT more then the polys were, like 2 1/2 times higher. I was set to jump on them, but will have to think it over now and make sure it's worth the $$$.

It does seem that having FI/AA both online was somewhat of a conflict of interests, and maybe they want AA to compete with the "big name" brands sold at B&M stores. Guess we'll find out when the press release comes out.

Just doesn't seem like the AA I used to know and love..........tis a sad day...

Thats a bummer. More than half the appeal about the original AA poly's was the insanely good price.
