A tenfold improvement in battery life?

Think of the improvement in cell phone functionality.... battery life is holding us back to a large extent. Would be nice to have all that power on tap. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

The biggest thing holding us back in technology concerning batteries is the weight of them.
Well, yes, but the weight is because of the fact that we can't get the energy density required to power a laptop for 24 hours so we have to make the battery larger and thus heavier.

I guess it just depends whether this new improvement makes the batteries heavier, lighter, or stays about the same.
True, but again it all comes down to energy density. If they can pack much more energy into the new batteries in a smaller space who cares if the unit size of it weighs more when you can get more energy out of a smaller size battery.

It just all depends though. If you start talking about something like putting these new batteries into cars, the overall weight matters a lot.

True since no matter what they will want to pack a large amount of these into a car to give it a long range, I was thinking more portable electronics type things.

Ahh, yes, indeed for portable electronics. This very well could be the answer as a power source for the new OLED screens.

Having taken a materials science class and learning all this shit, I have a feeling that this means the batteries will be lighter. Perhaps not enough to make a difference for cars though.

Also, I'm sure my Materials Science teacher shit himself with glee when he found this out. A very strange little China-man he was.
