Right now we are having an influx of scam artist. Why don't we have one of our vendors step in and offer to be a shipping point, for a fee of course, before funds exchange hands. Or even in trades, both parties can ship their items to the vendor, once both items get to the vendor and are inspected, the receiving parties pay the fee and shipping to them. This would only be for questionable deals. But would save alot of members the heartbreak of getting scammed.

Any input from anyone on this????

Heres an example:

I have been wanting to trade my Rubicon 2500.1d for a DTR3400.1. I find one on here from a newbie and he wants to trade with me paying him x amount of $ on top of trade. I ship my amp to starr mountain, he ships his amp to starr mountain. Once they both get there and double 07 sees they are both as described he contacts us both with a shipping fee for each of us. At this moment I would know that I can paypal the remaining funds to the newb as the amp is in hands I trust. Pay double 07 and he ships the amp to me. So it may cost me $40 more for the peace of mind.

This came to mind when I saw a newb with 1 post trying to sell an SAZ2500

Too many hassles involved for it to work like you think. Would you have that vendor test all the equipment before he ships it? I think that, very unfortunately, it's either you don't buy from noobs or you take that risk. Don't think there's a good way around that.

For a fee, YES

So the amp is shipped to Taylor, and I ask him to test it for $30. He lets me know the amp is shot. I don't buy the amp or do a trade. So I am out $30 for testing and $50 shipping both ways. So for $80 i just saved myself from getting scammed

thats really not a bad idea. what do you think you would want for a fee @TaylerFade ; ?
Meh. Just enough for the hassle of packing the stuff back up and gettnig it to FedEx. I woulnd't be in it to pay the mortgage or anything. I've been scammed before (several times) and it would be more about helping others avoid it. I'd even take little stuff in trade for the service. Wire or install accessories or whatever if that's preferable.

I mean it's not a horrible idea, I just think it's much easier to buy from reputable people. A noob might have something you want, I could see that, but me, something used around here at noob prices is going to be about the same amount as new once you factor in this additional fee you are describing. And then whose to say that noob wont claim that TaylorFade blew his amp when he was testing it or when he shipped it back? I just foresee a lot of hassles. But, if you can work it out and there is interest for it, by all means go for it.

I see what your saying. But I think this would be a means that would scare away scammers and keep the honest people on the site.

i can foresee adding a 3rd party to a transaction being somewhat akin to a an expensive monkey wrench thrown into the proverbial gears if something were to happen to a package during processing or if an item shows up d.o.a... it is possible to assume that some cheeky d-bag might want to take the middle man for a ride as well.

if the paperwork (contractual) were in order to protect all parties, it would possibly work well for everyone, but im a skeptical s.o.b.

But if I have 250 to buy an amp that means I have to spend 1/3 on shipping and a fee. Plus just in the time I have been here a couple long timers have been caught scamming, so it is not just noobs that you should worry about. As times continue to get worse we will see more people resorting to these measures, that's the risk you take.
