A shop told me to make a box bigger than specs on website

I recently took my car to an audio shop and they told me that the box was too small just by looking at it. But i built it exactly to the specs on Rockford Fosgates website. They said with the amp gains and stuff set correctly it would sound better in a big box.

So my question is. Is there any proof of this?

The sub is being slightly overpowered if that makes a difference. 400 watts recommended but its getting 550.

Vehicle : 97 ford explorer

Location in the vehicle: the back

Space available (Length x Width x Height): in the boot? a lot

Subwoofer make and model: Rockford Fosgate P2D4

Subwoofer Size: 12 in

Number of Subwoofers: 1

Type of Port (Kerfed, Slot, Aero, etc.): sealed

What type of music do you like?: Rock, metal, rap, electronic. I'm all over the place

Is your goal SPL or Everyday Music?: Everyday listening.

Tuning Freq (Hz): Idk

Volume : 1.02 Cubes just like the RF website recomends

since your box is a sealed box, it wont matter at all. just leave it alone.

Making the box bigger will give you a little more lowend but lose a little off the top. If more output is your goal build a ported box.

Yea a p2 12" in a 1.75"-2.5" cube ported box to like 35hz would be night and day from a 1cube sealed box.

difference perceived is soo minuscule its not worth any effort. if you were at .7 cubic feet or smaller then yes you would need a bigger box but right at 1 cube to 1.5 cubes theres very little difference on how the sound spectrum is altered.

Why did you take it to the shop in the first place? Was there an issue, or were you just not satisfied with the sound anymore?
