a quick amp test?

Hey ppl i just got a free amp from a buddy of mine and i was wondering if there was a quick and easy way to test it before installing it in my car just to make sure it works? or would i be better off just taking it down to my local car audio dealer and get them to test it for me? id LOVE to know ASAP as its the last step in installing my system THANKS ALOT!

First off you need some sort of 12v DC current to power the amp with the type of current it needs (house power is 110v AC current typically if you didn't know the difference) The type of amp it is will decide how much 12v DC current it needs and some 12v DC current supplies can get pretty pricey. A spare car battery and a battery charger can serve as a poor man's substitute if you do not have a medium to high amperage 12v DC power supply available.

Next you'll need something to use for a source and that can be accomplished several different ways. One fairly easy way is a portable CD player with a headphone jack which can be used with an adapter that has a male stereo miniplug on one end and two male RCA plugs on the other end that is available pretty cheap from Radio Shack, Wal-Mart, etc.

Then you'll need some speakers to connect to it to verify that the amp has output...

If you have the other stuff necessary to make such a test it can be a quick and easy process but not everyone has all the needed ingredients for this particular recipe.
