A picture for you...

The mids that won my SQ shootout are considered the ugly drivers.Care to guess who the winners and losers were ? Technically, there is no

loser, the loser just got higher scores.

http://home.pacbell.net/lordpk/mids/

Point is, I don't give a turd what the drivers look like if they are superior

in function. But if you want to generate sales, eye candy wins.

doing straight spokes with a simple spider landing vs. that complicated structure would be vastly cheaper.... it just may look strange with a 5.5" back plate and a 3" diameter motor... and even weirder with the 2" diameter shallow mount motor

either one is doable and still keep our time frame.... just let me know now... I personally think this frame will be the best overall looking... and since it's steel that frame would outperform..... probably... every cast 6.5" frame on the market used in these type of drivers

Fix the toothpick basket. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

casting it out of aluminum is far cheaper than casting it out of steel... the basket is actually functional being the way it is though.... it provides extremely low surface area for the back wave cutting down on cone reflections... and using steel means it's far far far stronger than aluminum

either way is fine by me.... casting aluminum is a FAR quicker process than casting in steel... only problem is if you do a straight spoke the motor just won't look right unless you add things like heatsinks and such .....

can always go from the $15 each N42 magnet to a $1 each 5.5" OD ferrite... and lose about 80% of the magnetic strength //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Like I said before at CAF... the magnet on the Omega is stronger than ALL of the magnets used on each gap of the Adire parthenon

would it be possible to get some teaser pics of the shalllower mount version?
~Magick_Man~

within the next day or so yes..... right now I have to head to bed... Ology's been busy outside of these 6.5's in the last 2 months //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Here's a teaser of the shallow mount... just a teaser guys nothing's finalized yet... especially since a lot of people seem to be interested in changing the basket...

doesn't use the hexy former, same underhung structure... self shielded, underated 90w RMS, Inductance around 0.1mh, full 1mm of copper faraday around the pole, same extremely linear KMS curves and BL is linear for 9mm one way (straight line like the other)... Xmax around 11mm one way... 2.7" deep

Fs: 40hz

SPL: 90db/w

Qts: .6

Re: 3.2 ohms

Xmax: 11mm one way

I still really like the way this basket looks... but maybe it's just me... it should be the industrial 6.5" standard like the 12 spoke frame seems to be IMO

New basket...

1/4" 8 spokes... split into 16 spokes just like this basket and slowly grow to 1/2" spokes... Cast aluminum now.

lookin pretty **** good.

now the question for me is will the omegas be worth the extra money and hassle since there is no way they will fit in my door. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

i wonder if the shallow mounts would be a good match for the ribbons i am getting today.

With a 44mm gap and a small VC, you definitely need a strong magnet.
Not necessarily a good thing or a bad thing.
it's a good thing when you look at what specs we achieved //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif The omega design was simply the best 6.5" we could possibly conceive... You would need a much thicker magnet if you wanted to use anything but underhung... which would bump the price up... a good 2-3 times for the magnet costs.... Overhung motors would need a smaller magnet, however they also would have a terrible BL curve in comparison... same if you used XBL2 or other techniques.... save a little on magnet costs... add a lot of depth/need thicker magnets (so the magnets would cost the same).... overhung's mms would be astronomical... could have never achieved such ideal specs

pulling a 5.2g mms for a 6.5" that can handle such high power and be so highly efficent while still having a VERY low F3 point in IB or sealed is a task as you can imagine

a Single Omega would outperform 4 Adire Extremis's till after 125w of power .... and after then the 4 Extremis's would have better power compression.... however you could achieve levels faaar beyond the Extremis's coil would allow comparing 1 to 1.... talking about achieving something like 118db at 100hz... where the extremis would probably be limited to 105-106

I believe this is the strongest magnet ever used on any speaker.... and it's still cheaper than most speakers... even though there's a good 10 times the production costs as the extremis into each one of these....

the magnet in the Extremis and our shallow mount speaker are the same size... and cost around 1500% less than the Omega's magnet

Steel costs? the extremis and our shallow mount (basically the same motor except ours has a better BL curve) cost around 4000% less than the Omega's steel costs....

This is likely why companies are starting to flock for rebadging and OEM usage of both these drivers ... the omega is home audio's dream 6.5" //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I would take the omegas any day of the week if you want to put them in pods or doors... that price is a good 50-60% less than it will be from your local dealer after this mth.... it's the 6.5" to beat all 6.5's .... it would probably last you several years before any company even touches it with anything remotely similar

BTW the way I listened to both of these speakers was mated to my AC GS3i ribbons... sounded magical //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif In fact 4 Omegas are now going to be in my home audio speakers to replace the PHL 1120s
