a few kicker l7 questions.

Hi everyone. I am planning on getting a kicker l7 sub. I was wondering what the sound difference would be between having the 12" L7 in a 2.0 cu ft box tuned to 32hz or a 3.0 cu ft box tuned to 35HZ. Which one would be preferred as far as sound quality is concerned as I am not looking to shatter any glass. I know these wooofers aren't exactly the top sound quality subs out their by any means but I want to make the best use out of them. On a side note, I am powering them with a polk c500.1 which is rated at 545 watts as per the birthsheet. Kicker says in their owners manuals that the power handling of a 10" L7 is 450 watts when in a ported box and 600 watts when used in sealed applications. The 12" is rated at 600 ported and 750 sealed. Does this mean that if I decide to go with a ported 10" setup, I could risk blowing the L7?

I know I have thrown in 2 questions but I hope someone can take the time to clearly explain this to me. Thanks so much in advance.

uhh... nahh you wont blow it off of 545... ever lol. they can handle a good 1000 at least. the 12 can take at least 1500. i run mine off of about 1100 watts. 3.0 cubic ft box at 34 hertz is the popular enclosure choice. its what i use and its what a bunch of people told me to go with.

Ok so to wrap this up what would you recommend I do with the 545 watts? Should I run a 10" L7 in a 2.0 cu ft ported enclosure at 32HZ? Should I do a 12" L7 in a 2.0 cu ft enclosure at 32HZ? Or finally should I do a 12" L7 in a 3.0 cu ft 35HZ enclosure. Thanks so much for the help.

It depends how much output you want. If you have the room I'd say go 12. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Lakota, do you think their is a risk of me blowing a 12" L7 with only 545 watts? Also what will the sound difference be between having this sub in a 2.0 at 32 HZ or a 3.0 @ 35hz? Thanks

No, the sub won't blow with that amount of power. I run nearly double the rated power to my L715 daily without any issues (I'm also careful). My coils still read the same impedance as the day I got the sub (I've had the sub over a year). As I keep stressing, just make sure that you don't clip the amp by sending a "dirty" signal to your sub. If the sub receives a bad signal its life time could be shortened. When many noobs aren't happy with the output of their sub they crank the gains and bad things happen to the sub.

The larger box will more than likely be more efficient and require less power to get the sub moving. I also like the 35hz range for daily driving, so I would recommend that box.

Ok, I will go out and measure the hatch area of my acura rsx to see if the 3.0 cu ft 35hz box will fit. It over 37" wide so I might have to settle for a 2.0 cu ft 32 hz box which is only 30" wide. Should I not be able to fit a 35hz box back there, would you then recommend me using the L7 10 incher in a 2.0 cu ft box at 32 hz rather?

if i remember correctly someone on here has like 5.5 cubes with 2 12 L7's in a RSX, i would probably go with 3.0 CU at 33-34 HZ cause it will sound good and it will get loud...but you should get a better amp

with 600-700watt's you want atleast 2.75-3+ cu. I heard 3.25 at 33hz is there sweet spot but this is only what I have heard. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
