A Few Fi Subwoofer Questions

So can someone tell the forum what this amp does @ 1 ohm, on a decent electrical system? lol
Or is this just going to be a giant flame where, getting further and further away from what the OP wanted to know?

nG, you said to get the Q, so does that mean that the Hifonics is in fact way overrated and only puts out about 1200-1300 RMS @ 1 ohm on a normal electrical, or is it just that it's not quite enough for a fully loaded BL?

EDIT: Just saw your most recent post.
I answered the way I did, because of one of the stipulations set forth by the OP.

If everyone thinks a Fi Q is hands-down louder, better, and all around greater than a Type-R at the same wattage, then Ill get that.

The ipod is giving an entirely different signal as compared to the HU.
Therefore, it could have easily caused the amplifier to send out a clipped signal... especially if it was maxed out.

isnt the type r only rated 500 watts rms? if given 1200 watts isnt that a sure thing its going to blow?

Correct.

Though, when put in the hands of an experienced person, you can use a more powerful amplifier.

In a daily situation, it's good to have a little clean headroom, aka, more power than is needed. Music is dynamic, so you will NOT be getting a full 1200watts RMS out of a 1200watt RMS amplifier 24/7.

But, some music and signal sources have higher output and peaks... leading an amplifier to clip. This is where an experience user can tell when to back off.

It's all a game, trying to give a woofer more and more power... pushing it to it's limits without blowing it up. In a daily situation, for daily groundpounders that don't know anybetter... it's probably best not to go over rated RMS power. As many doubt even know the limits, or signs of stress until it's too late.

Just some random rambling...

dduuddee..im scared to turn up the gain on my jbl to my ssd(flatwind) anymore than it is. its sittin at less than 1/2 and if i get on it for 10 or 20 sec she stinks and gets alittle warm..how much did you push to yours?

probably goin to 2 Q's and my old pca2000d..

interesting. i was going to get a 12 or 15" type r, assuming i could run 1200 daily. i guess all the type r's ive seen holding that much watts were mainly for burps? i

I had 6 SSD's on an amplifier rated for 4000watts @1ohm, but it was seeing a 1.333ohm load. And even then, that's before impedance rise.

I was FAR under mechanical, or thermal limits. I TRIED to beat the hell out of them... but they took everything I threw at them.
