A Crazy Question

hey,

i used to run my old kicker L7 4-ohm dual voice coil sub with just the one voice coil hooked up because i never knew anything about dual voice coils. (bad idea) later on i fried it..

now i just orderd a kicker L7 2-ohm version off e-bay and im going to hook it up like this:

pos from amp to pos on speaker

neg from amp to neg on speaker

pos and neg on speaker to eachother

now my question is what set up is going to sound better? my old setup 4-ohm to only 1 voicecoil or the new one thats coming, 2 ohm version with the voice coils wired right...

will it be louder or what?

It might be a bit louder. The SQ wont change from wiring another coil up.

No question the new one wired right will be louder. May sound better too.

This would be indicative of this method of connection being mechanically bad for the driver. See below...

Series wiring it to a 4 Ohm load?

See above - if it wasn't a good idea the first time (were you happy with the result?) then likely it won't be a good idea this time either.

I don't know. I didn't hear it the first time and stranger things have happened than a lone coil on a DVC driver not being hooked up makes it louder. That just might be the weird thing for today. Who knows? For the long-term lifespan of the sub, however, I would recommend connecting both coils and not one by itself.
