A complete sound system under $1000 , need help!

I've got a 2000 model Honda CRV and am looking at changing the audio system and everything in it as it is still running off a cassette tape.

I would like to change the head unit, amp, subwoofers and speakers but I have no idea where to start or what to buy or how much it would cost to install them.

I was told Pioneers and Kickers are good though.

Looking to spend around $1000 AUS or under, including installation.

Can it be done? Links or models for specific Sub/amp/speaker/head unit would be appreciated.

Thanks for any input!

It can be done, shipping will get you though. Are you willing to buy used? Can you build your own enclosure? Will you install yourself? All these questions will save you money.

I'd prefer new, and no to the other two questions. I know these will cut me back a bit but my sound system at the moment is absolutely horrid. Pretty much anything would be better than it, I'm just looking for the best I can get for this price shipped and installed.

You could check out sonicelectronix.com and look around, but again I think shipping will hurt. If you don't install it yourself that alone is going to cost anywhere between 200 - 400. IMHO it would be better for you to find someone here that would ship to you and find a friend that installs or learn by asking here and do it on your own. CRV's are easy.

you can definatly do it under 1000 i did all mine for less than 700 look for a box on craigslist or something that will save you over buying new and amazon has good deals on every thing you need. As far as the install its freakin easy get a wiring adaptor for the radio its all color coded. if you dont know how to do the install im sure you can find some videos of it on youtube or something..and yeah if you cant install it you dont deserve to have a system

Yeah shipping is a pain for Australia. I'm looking to buy from ryda.com.au they have a fair few things, ebay or the local JBHIFI (Friend can offer 20% discount). I just need to know what to buy though =\

Well going off ebay, you could just look at what people are running here and see if there is anyone selling/shipping to Australia.

I looked at ryda, from what they have personally what I would run will put you over 1000 for just the amp and headunit. The kickers are ok, but **** that price. I would sell you my 2 kickers in my sig for as much as the 400.1 is. Check ebay honestly, or here. Look for a set of Phoenix Gold RSD's for front speakers, shouldn't be more than 150 shipped maybe? Their RSD line is ok for the price. There are others out there that are a good lower end equipment. I'd stay away from JL just cause of the price.

you can save money by buying a cheaper brand 3 way door speakers like boss or something not sure what you can get over there. i personally like pioneer head units because there reasonably priced and good quality had mine for almost 8 years with no problems .kicker subs are good although ive seen alot of people talk crap about them on here. haha i have pyle square subs they are great and cheap like 40 bucks a piece over here and everybody on here says there junk 1 of mine is louder than my friends 2 10" kicker cvr. nothing wrong with a cheaper amp as long as you buy bigger than what your subs are rated for because they are rated higher than they actually put out.

Thank you both very much for all the input.

Something that works in my price range that I saw at the local shops (and can possibly get cheaper through ebay)

Pioneer GM5400T

Pioneer TS Wx303

Pioneer Deh-7350BT

and a Pioneer speaker (forgot the model) or the Phoenix Gold RSD

all up for aprox 600-800

Thoughts?

I like the 7350 headunit. The amp and sub not so much, but for the right price its better than boss or pyle. Are you going to run the other speakers off the headunit or find another amp for them? If your not going to get rear dash speakers and just go with a sub and front speakers find a 4 channel amp. You can run the front channels to your front speakers and bridge the rear channels for the sub. You won't get as much power to your sub as a seperate amp for the sub, but you won't spend as much either.

Chris if your friends were spending thousands on theirs and they didn't sound better than your pyle and boss then they damn sure had no clue what they were doing.
