A bad Box??

I have 2 boxes for 15's that im selling the speakers out of and they have worn off edges on some of the sides of the wood. it has no carpet on it yet. its sealed so i was going to buy some carpet but certain parts of the edges dont come to a point. what should i do if i want to have clean egdes but sanding would make the wood to thin.
