yea well i havent looked it up but whats the main difference in open and concealled carrying of a firearm.

and that S&W looks nice however i am gonna get the compact version of either the springfield xd, S&W M&P compact, or the baby glock 26

I am more of a .45 and 9mm guy, but I do have a .380 and a .40. ETA: It is the Glock 26 and my G22 that are missing from the photo below.... oops.

ETA2: With the latest advances in hollow point technology, the 9mm isn't the same weak *** round that it was 10 years ago. The only place is makes a difference is for military applications where the US only allows ball ammunition, or non-expanding rounds, per the Geneva convention. If you were carrying a mag full of full metal jackets, I would recommend going for the biggest projectile you can comfortably shoot out of a handgun!

Thanks! Top right is a Glock 19. I have a 26 too, but what I have learned is that if you can conceal a 19, you don't need a 26. The .40 caliber equivalents are real close to the same size.

9mm, .40 caliber bullets suffer from severe drift and drop if I'm not mistaken.
FYI - Statistics show that most self-defense shootings take place at 12 feet or less. Bullet drift will not be a factor at such a close distance. Although I would prefer a rifle for self-defense, it isn't convenient to carry one around:eek:

yea i never heard anything about that happening but i will read more about that, the main reason i was looking at 9mm and .40 over the .45 was one a compact 45 only holds around 6 or 7 the compact 9 holds 13 and the 40 holds 11 so only 2 shot difference, also the recoil effect i figure the 45 will have more making it harder to shoot the follow up shots quickly and accurate.

and i carry a single shot 20 guage with slugs in my truck right in between my front seats for some self defense now but i want a nice compact pistol to carry on me, and whats the diff in concealed or open carrying a firearm i just figured go concealed less people looking at you and asking questions if you are allowed to carry it or not you know

and i also have big hands and feet size 13 for feet i am a tall guy 6'2 i havent held the small handungs yet to really see if they will fit my hand better than the regular models but i dont want something big to carry around just to fit perfect in my hand, thats why the S&W i was looking to get over the glock since the S&W is a taller gun from the bottom of the mag to the top of the slide its a lil taller so should have more to grip

the .45 doesn't need as many rounds due to its knockdown power, if you are limpwristed then stay away from a .45 ........and when was the last time you had to take on a crowd of people. Most people run like cockroaches when they see steel

well i agree with that too but the ammo is pricy for the .45 and harder to find a small compact gun like the S&W M&P compact in a .45 and i have only shot a 22mag revolver and a .380 handgun before never shot a 9,40,45 so idk how each one is gonna vary in kicks which one does a .380 compare to or the 22 mag, and not many places i know i can try out guns at either

I am a firm believer in concealed carry, with a permit of course. I like the element of surprise on my side whereas if I have a gun being openly carried, I have concerns that I would be the first one to take a bullet to the back of the head.

Plus, in Louisiana, too many police officers don't know the open carry law, nor do they care about it! I don't know if you remember the guy who was arrested in Gonzales during the Post Katrina situation or not.... He ended up getting an undisclosed amount of money to drop his suit against the department for not following the law that they are sworn to uphold.

Another problem with open carry is that you have the fear factor from your run of the mill people. Try walking into Wal-mart with that gun on your side and see how long it takes for management to ask you to put your firearm in the vehicle.

Lastly, I used to keep an AR-15 in my vehicle until my attorney advised that if I fight my way to that rifle, I may have a hard time proving self-defense.

yea well i figure keeping it concealled is the way to go and my shotgun is accesible to get to so its no big deal its a short barrel single shot and will do some damage
