9835 or 8454...not normal comparison

I have the ability to trade my brand new indash screen...which ive been trying to sell for quite a long time (4+ months) for a 1 month old 9835. The seller has promised to include a brand new faceplace along with $100.

The problem is...I can try try and wait a little bit longer and sell the unit for $400-450 and pick up a brand new cd8454 for $330.

Im planning on running a set of Image Dynamics horns along with Ascendant Audio Poly mids or the ology mids if they live up to the hype...along with ever being released.

Which should I go for?

im aware that the 9835 is a nice unit, but the 8454 swamps it in overall processing.

How does the 9835 compare to the 8454 feature wise? Strictly as an SQ unit.

Would I have the ability to add a H701 with the 9835?

Does the 9835 have any onboard amplification? I am planning on running the horns off the headunits onboard amp (they only require 1-8 watts at most).

ima quote 3.5maxspd on a huge reason why the eclipse should be had over the alpine

that leaves the the alpine as the most flexible unit, but i have to comment on its ease of operation. I find it to be very poorly implemented with too many menu's under one knob and making you use the glidestip to navigate. You also cannot raise or lower volume while you set you xovers/ EQ realtime-which is pointless and a no-no...

I believe you are thinking of the 9855 (2005), the 9835 (2004) does not possess a glidestrip.
yea i know but the point of me quoting that is because on the eclipse you can do real time tuning, meaning when you change crossover pts/slopes and eq, you can turn up the volume right there to actually listen to the change on the spot. but on an alpine, when you change crossover pts/slopes and eq, you can't change the volume on the spot and hence you need to move back to the normal menu then up the volume to hear the changes. eclipse is much better HU to tune.

Are there any other opinions on these 2 units? My goal is for a strict SQ vehicle with some SPL, its going to be a daily driver.

Ive decided on using horns, because they offer me the ability to use the headunits amplification (saves me $100-150 for a new amp), offer amazing dynamics, and dont require severe modification to my compact car (fitting a large format tweeter, such as a Seas 27TDFC in the car), and they'd be something unique.

I dunno... you get used to it...just like any unit...if you know how to use it you can be just as quick...it does **** that you cant turn the volume up when making adjustments....the tuning is real time though...when yo change it it changed the sound coming outa the speaker...at least on my 9855 it does..

Eh...this is such a hard decision.

Would it be difficult to sell a 1month old 9835 with a brand new faceplate on these forums or ebay? How much would I fetch?
