Hi. I've been wanting to improve the audio system in my 98 Sl1. My plan is to get a used sub/amp/box off of craigslist. First of all how would i go about hooking it up to the stock system?

No, you will not need it if you get an aftermarket head unit.

Yes it is better to get an aftermarket head unit.

You will have better results with an aftermarket head unit. More ability to tune and customize the sound to your preferences.

But, if you aren't in the market for a head unit, a line-out converter will work as well.
