Pics would definitely help. If it has two holes on each side of the radio, you need ford removal keys.

If there are no holes the trim part around the deck should unclip and then unscrew the deck.

X2 they have the removal keys at walmizzle for 3 bux also at auto zone for about the same price

yeah it needs a removal key. does the radio just slide out of something how do those work?

Put the keys in the sides at an angle inwards towards the radio. They will click. At that point push the keys outward from each other and pull out. The deck should slide right out. If it doesnt unclip the radio shroud and then pull out.

take out the whole little center piece its noly 2 screws on the bottom holding it in. Its the same as the 97 explorer

yes pull the 2 8mm screws on the bottom of the panel pull that out and push the radio out. i do it all the time.
