96' Ford Ranger speakers help

I'm looking to upgrade the speakers in my 96 Ranger. It's a 2 DR regular cab, stepside. I've been looking at these Pioneer 6x8's: http://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-TS-A6871R-speaker-3-way/dp/B000E626JS/ref=pd_bbs_1/002-1478683-1032832?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1181174394&sr=8-1

I'm just looking for some advice, I don't have much knowledge when it comes to car audio so anything will help. I'm wondering if I should get the 3-way or 4-way speakers, and if it's best to get just two speakers in the doors or four speakers in total (2 in the doors and 2 in that tiny space behind the seats).

Make a baffle out of MDF and get 6.5" comps up front. Don't worry rears... just put all the money into a good set of fronts.

Do you have a sub stage or planning one?

I might be interested in getting subs somewhere down the road, but for now i'm gonna stick with the two speakers up front and a new CD deck. Any recommendations on what speakers to get? I'm not looking to spend a lot of money, I just want something to improve upon the shitty stock speakers.

Also, is an amp necessary or can I get by without one?

I highly recommend making baffles and installing a good 6.5" component set. If you are on a tight budget and want strong midbass and smooth highs, log on to www.onlinecarstereo.com and pick up a set of Phoenix Gold RSd65cs comps. They are an authorized PG dealer, too.
