8's or single 12? (same power)

I'm just starting to plan out a system for my '06 Silverado 2500hd Regular Cab pickup truck and would really appreciate some advice from you folks. I haven't been into car audio since I was a senior in high school (7 years ago) so I'm assuming quite a bit has changed since then as far as the technology goes. I'm looking to build a similiar, but more compact system in my truck than what I had back then. Back in the day I had a '98 Honda accord with Diamond Hex 3-ways for the front stage and 3-12" rockford punch subs in the trunk powered by a rockford 360a2 and 800a2 respectively. For my current truck I would like something with similiar SQ and SPL just in a smaller space and with a slightly more simple install.

For the truck I am looking to run Image Dynamics CXS62 components up front and either a single IDMax in a custom center console enclosure or a a group of four 8" ID's. I'm not dead set on anything at this point so any suggestions would be great. For power I'm looking at an Alpine PDX-2.150 which would send 150x2@2ohms to the front stage and an Alpine PDX-1.1000 which would give either 1000 watts to the IDMax or 250 watts to each of the four 8's. Assuming a good install, adequate sound deadening and the fact that I have alot less interior space in the truck would it be possible for either of these setups to have the kind of SPL I had in my old car? I never had that car metered, but I believe it was doing something in the mid 130's. Which of the two setups would most likely have the higher SPL? which would have the better SQ?

If you made it all the way through this, THANX! I'd really like to hear some ideas from anyone with some more recent experience than myself!

I should also mention that my budget for the speakers and amps is a relatively firm $2k before anyone starts suggesting anything too crazy. I've also allocated $500 to sound deadening wiring and building materials. Hopefully that will be enough to get me a pretty decent daily driver.

If I went with the IDMAX I would be forced to build a new center console enclosure to house it (I do have a decent amount of experience with fiberglass enclosures from back in the day) so I could easily come up with 2.5^ft or so, but I would be going sealed so I doubt I would even need that much.

If I go with the ID8's I have pretty limited space behind the seats since I am 6'7" and cannot comfortably drive with the more than 1 notch up from all the way back. I could probably get around .25^ft per driver.

Wow, 6'7'' in a standard cab. I would say try the speakers behind the seat. What is your max mounting depth behind the seat? I have 2 jl 10w1 behind the seat of my 06 2500 crew cab. If I sit out back the subs pound against my back something fierce. You will probabily get better use of space with them behind the seat, 4 8'' or 2 10'' will be plenty enough in a reg cab pickup.
