880PRS wiring

I bought an 880PRS. I'm piecing my system together. This is the first piece. So at the moment, I'm going to have to run the speakers off it's internal amp. I purchased a wiring harness adapter to hook it to the truck. That adapter has RCA's on the speaker lines. So my question if I hook up the 880's RCA's to the ones on the adapter will it work. That is will it amp signal sent to RCA's or if you use them do you have to be using an internal amp. I'd like to just plug and play rather than cutting my adapter to use the straight wires on the 880. Did I make sense with all that?

I have the Scosche DCGM09, which is the same thing as the PAC C2R-GM24. I verified that with PAC. They make Scosche's harnesses. One in the same for those two.

I guess in general, the question is if you have the internal amp on the 880 turned on, do you get speaker level output from the RCA's, or is it still line level?

Using the internal amp you use the speaker wire outputs on the deck. the rca outputs on the deck do not change. they wont run speakers, only for amps.

Yes. RCA's on the Schosche. I don't have the Scosche manual, but because it's the same thing as the PAC, I pulled the PAC "manual", which is one page and doesn't show or speak to that point.

it should have the speaker wires on it. you know the gray, gray/white stripe, green and the other 2 colors. those should be the speakers you hook to the deck speakers.

The only ones of the speaker colors on the adapter have RCA's on them. Guess they figure you could be hooking into a system that has an amp, so rather than give you both versions, they just have RCA's. Looks like I'll have to cut. No biggie. I can do some more soldering. If I wanted to test, though, would it hurt to put line level to the speakers by plugging them in? I'm guessing I just wouldn't get anything out of the speakers.

wont hurt the speakers using rca power. just seems there is something missing here. that Scosche is a gm with onstar and door chime interface. I cant believe they didnt give you anything to help hook it up. I searched online and cant get any answers. if you cant get someone on here thats done those installs then I would wait till monday and call Scosche and get some answers. sorry i couldnt help more. My 05 mustang doesnt have that stuff and my 05 impala I havent change the deck.

Well, I bought the Scosche off a guy, so I didn't get the manual. Talking to PAC, I got the following. Read from bottom up, as it is an e-mail thread...

Yep, PAC builds the part for Scosche.

“The DCGM09 is our C2R-GM24.” – Does that mean PAC makes the unit for Scosche?

David,

As long as the Pioneer radio has the wired remote input the SWI-PS will work. The C2R-GM24 is the part you would want to use to replace the factory radio, it will retain the warning chimes, and if you have Bose it will retain the bose amp and keep a healthy data system. If you have OnStar you’ll need to use one of our OS-2modules (OS-2 or OS-2Bose). The SWI-PS will work fine with the Scosche unit. The DCGM09 is our C2R-GM24.

Thank you,

Subject: Needed interfaces

I have an ’03 GMC Sierra with steering wheel controls. I plan to replace the factory head unit with a Pioneer DEH-P880PRS. I would like to know what all adapters I would need. I know I need the SWI-PS. I’m just not sure about the other harness. I saw C2R-GM24, C2R-GM24B, and C2R-GM32R. Just not sure which one, if not something else all together.

Also, I would like to go all PAC, but I’m having a hard time finding those last few harnesses I mentioned. I have a friend who will give me a Scosche DCGM09, but I’m not sure if that will work in the equation. Could I use the SWI-PS and the DCGM09 together with my Pioneer H.U.?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Regards,

David

only thing I can think of is the bose. sounds like the bose system has an external amp and then you would want to plug the rcas into those Scosche rcas. i wonder if there is another adapter that would run from the Scosche rcas to speaker wires. all you would need is rcas with wires coming out of them to hook to the 880.

Yes. My understanding is Bose system runs an external amp and standard system runs amp in headunit. So, looks like I either cut the adapter or put another piece in between. Think I'll probably cut the adapter and solder to the speaker wires on the 880 harness. First, I'll do a quick test and make sure I'm not full of it on the head unit using it's own amp for factory setup.

Thanks, man.

Well, geez. I finally found the answer on Cardomain.com where they are selling these Scosche adapters...

NOTE: If using the DCGM09 with a Bose Audio system, connect the RCA from your new radio to the RCA ends of the DCGM09. If using the DCGM09 with a non-Bose audio system, simply cut off the DCGM09's RCA connectors and splice the speaker wires from your new radio to the newly-created speaker wires of the DCGM09. Bose amplifiers require a low-level input for proper signal balance between a high power aftermarket radio and the low-level input of a Bose amplifier. Using the RCA inputs from your radio with a non-Bose audio system will result in poor and very quiet sound quality.
