But not teh awsome mighty RL-i8.

No srerious, as long as you don't factor in price and power requirments.

the RE 8 took out several big 8's in the challenge... including 3 of its TC cousins.. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif bigger.... supposedly meaner cousins...

I'd be quite willing to give an RL-8 a run against the RE 8 if somebody had one they'd be willing to part with for a couple weeks.. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Someone makes a post asking about budget minded 8's, and Makenzie suggests an 8W7. Great going Mak. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif
To answer your original question, yes RE8's are a popular choice for regular cab owners. And while there are definitely better 8's out there (Koda 8, prolly the Rl-i, etc) the RE8 seems to be a good little performer for the like $50 each they cost.
Thanks //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Notice how I posted 8 w7 before he mentioned his price range.

fyi the model they used in the big 8 challenge is VERy different than rl-i 8"

that and the box was over 0.5 cuf t too small for the way that tc 8" was spec'd

I had re8's,and some tc prototypes (basically rl-i's) no comparison in linearity, SQ,power handling, and overall output

the rl-i/tc was far better

I dont get why people like the re8's so much I thought they were light in the pants lol

albeit very cost effective

He was looking at a $50 sub, and made comments in his first post like "plus, they're not very expensive so I wouldn't have to break the bank to get a couple". Seems common sense would rule out W7's at that point. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Well guys, I think I'm going to go with the RE8's. Price was a factor, but the extremely small recommended enclosure size was probably the main reason.

However, I do appreciate all of the suggestions! I've bookmarked all of the companies you guys mentioned for future reference, even the w7's.

Thanks again. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

FYI, I know exactly what woofers were used in the great 8 challenge, as I'm the one that did the great 8 challenge...

ED 8a

EA 8ax

TC underhung unit

I said TC cousins, I didn't say direct relatives..

thanks though.. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
