No audible advantage. Not any better for sound quality.

Though I'm not sure what you mean by "8ohm system". Many people with a DIY frontstage are using 8ohm speakers because they are using home audio based drivers.

i was kinda basing the question on home audio. i was thinking that maybe they used 8 ohms for sq and the fact that power is easier to come by in 120 volts, making it easier to run higher ohm loads.

 
IIRC, in the early days of speakers high ohm loads were the norm, it's not an SQ matter at all. It is just an accepted standard that's only changed for ever so popular current heavy 12v systems.

DQM (Don't quote me), YMMV, not valid in sections of california, don't use if pregnant, nursing, or may become pregnant, etc, etc.
